Roosevelt & Lisa
A fairytale proposal straight out of a Disney Movie.
When I first received Roosevelt’s inquiry, I honestly was skeptical.
It sounded too good to be true, I questioned it. I feel guilty for that and it’s now an on going joke. I couldn’t be more thankful for following my gut and scheduling our consultation because it turned out to be one of the most memorable moments I’ve ever captured in my career yet. I remember being so stunned by how well spoken he was.
There wasn’t a detail left out and everything truly played out exactly as planned.
He went on to tell me about their relationship and a little bit about his soon-to-be fiancé, Lisa. Her favorite movie is The Beauty and the Beast and he wanted to bring that to life for her which I thought was incredibly beautiful. He had her favorite scene in the movie hand painted by a friend, replicating this exact moment. I mean…I nearly cried listening to him describe how he planned for this to go. It’s every girls dream since we were little girls to have this magical love experience, and here is this man making it all come true for Lisa. And I get to capture it!!!
There were a few obstacles that Roosevelt went through before getting to this day. With experiencing a major loss, it was impossible for him to continue with his original plan, but after a few months of healing, he pushed through and we got these lovers engaged. It was genuinely the most special moment I’ve ever documented and I can’t say that enough.
In the 26 years of living in the small town of Hawthorne, I never knew about this beautiful museum just down the road from my childhood home.
Lisa’s brother and I hid in the corner of the room Roosevelt had their painting hung.
Watching them pull up with smiles on their faces got us so excited, I remember shaking anticipating getting this shot. Just from my view outside of the window, seeing them get out of the car, I was starstruck by how stunning Lisa was, a real life Disney princess. Little did she know in that moment, she was about to become someones fiancé.
A moment for the ring…
After the emotions settled in and the shock faded, I spent a few moments photographing Lisa and Roosevelt exactly as they are.
I didn’t want to overwhelm them too much after just experiencing this beautiful moment together but I knew that these photos were important and I wanted to document them and this milestone in their relationship perfectly. This was my way of painting them what this day looked like, just as their friend did with the piece that was custom made for them!
From there, we traveled over to Lisa’s parents house where all their friends and family waited for them. She had no clue, it was priceless.
Meeting their loved ones and being welcomed into their home was such a privilege.
They led a prayer and continued celebrating this beautiful moment as they combine their families into one.
