Katie & Jonathan

Proof that an intimate micro wedding can be just as special and beautiful.

Katie and I connected on Instagram. I almost missed her message, thankfully I didn’t.

We started with how I always start my calls, how Katie and Jonathan met, the son they together who would play a huge roll in this big day and how all that mattered to her was that this day was documented. Katie didn’t want the traditional wedding, she wanted to gather her closest friends and family and celebrate just them. No crazy party, no fancy decorations, just them.

The Forest Hill Field Club hosted their wedding, a gorgeous country club in Bloomfield, NJ.

I spent the morning with Katie while she got ready with the company of her best friend. At first, these photos weren’t on her priority list but she was so stunning standing there with the natural light coming in through the window, I couldn’t help but photograph her. Once I finished up grabbing a few photos of the details and venue, I got to chat with her before we lined her up for ceremony. She was so sweet, so funny. We got a long as soon as we connected!

Jonathan and their son Landon hung tight outside while they greeted guests arriving. Landon was so cute, he let me take him off to the side and snap a few photos of just him. I thought it would mean a lot to Katie.

Katie’s dad was the funniest little man I’ve ever met. He was so cheerful and excited to walk her down the aisle. He practiced going up and down the stairs knowing she was nervous about falling. He made sure to guide her down safely and didn’t leave her side until it was ready to say their I do’s.

The ceremony was beautiful. The weather was perfect, not too cold and just the right lighting casting over the golf course.

I think my favorite part of their ceremony was when Katie, Jonathan and their son Landon blended their sand together. This symbolizes the unity of the child along with the couple being married. I love the fact that they included Landon in this moment and I think he did too. He had the biggest smile on his face the entire day.

Not even half way through ceremony, Katie kicked off her heels. It was so epic!! Everyone was all for it and cheered her on.

Twenty people. That’s all it took to make Katie and Jonathan’s wedding day special.

There’s something about having all of your loved ones at one long dinner table. It reminds me of Thanksgiving or getting together for the holidays. Passing the food around to each other, filling up the cup of the person next to you, clinking glasses, it gives this close, tight knit family feel to the evening. It’s always nice to dress up nice and be served by fancy waiters for a change, dance your tail off on the floor and hang out at the bar all night but this just felt right for Katie and Jonathan.

While their guests found their seats, I took Katie and Jonathan outside for a few photos.

It was such a pleasure meeting and working with these two lovely people. To think that we almost didn’t move forward with booking together blows me away because I think they changed my life just as much as I help capture a small part of theirs.

This is my message to those who are worried that their micro wedding isn’t as luxurious and photogenic as your typical high end wedding, no matter how big or small it’s just as special and you deserve to have it documented. If you are feeling lost and don’t see many options for the type of celebration you’re having, let’s talk!
